When Was the Last Time You Really Played?

When was the last time you let yourself play, really play, like you did when you were a child? Not for a reason, not for a result, but just because it felt good to try something new, to discover, to laugh in pure joy?

For most adults (including myself), play quietly slips out of our lives. Schedules fill up, responsibilities pile on, and suddenly, anything that looks like "just for fun" feels like a luxury, or worse, a waste of time.

We start to believe play is for children, and grown-ups should always be productive, serious, or aiming for a result.

Research shows that unstructured play helps adults manage stress, boost creativity, and reconnect with a sense of joy.

But what if play is exactly what we need?

Research shows that unstructured play helps adults manage stress, boost creativity, and reconnect with a sense of joy. The real challenge isn’t finding time, it’s giving ourselves permission to be messy, imperfect, and a bit silly.

Perfectionism is a hard habit to break.

We’re taught to value outcomes over experiences. But the most freeing moments often come when we let go of expectations and just enjoy the process. In art, that might mean splattering paint, making a mess, and laughing at the results, knowing it doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be fun.

So here’s a gentle reminder: you’re allowed to play. You’re allowed to try something new, make mistakes, and enjoy yourself for no reason at all.

The world won’t end if you take an hour to do something just because it makes you smile.

If you’re curious about rediscovering play, our Paint Playground at Create98two is open for adults, no experience needed, just curiosity. Book a session if you feel like giving yourself permission to be a little messy, and a lot joyful.
