 laire Hankey Claire Hankey is a mixed media artist living by the Thames Es
 tuary in Leigh on sea\, Essex. Her work is created in response to changes 
 in the seasons\, daily walks and childhood memories of spending time immer
 sed in nature. Claire’s work is mainly abstract\, richly textured and cr
 eated in multiple layers. She uses natural materials within her art making
  process and creates her own unique brushes from foraged plants and driftw
 ood collected from the estuary. Claire loves to create work combining diff
 erent techniques including photocollage\, working with fluid paint and usi
 ng a hand-held sander to reveal earlier layers within a painting. Her work
  has a sense of history and has been described as ‘sensory’\, ‘spect
 ral’ and ‘atmospheric’. Recently\, Claire has started to explore wor
 king with oil and cold wax\, and is enjoying the mysterious and evocative 
 qualities this medium has to offer. Claire has a BA(Hons) in Art History a
 nd is a fully qualified Art teacher. She works from her garden studio in L
 eigh on Sea and teaches workshops for adults and community groups. She is 
 also the art coordinator at a local preparatory school. Claire has exhibit
 ed her work at The Society of Women Artists Exhibition at The Mall Galleri
 es in London\, The Leigh Art Trail- 2022 and 2023\, Aldeburgh Contemporary
  Arts and is due to exhibit later this year at Milieu Studios in St Ives\,
  Cornwall.
