l Day\nWorkshop information: During this one-day Christmas mosaic work
shop you will design and make 4 seasonally themed decorative pieces: a bau
ble and robin for indoor display plus a star and robin for indoor or outdo
or use. This is a fun day for people new to mosaics or those just wanting
to make some festive items in the company of other similarly minded creati
ves. You will be introduced to laying and design techniques with guidance
on suitable materials\, bases and glue. There will be a demonstration of g
routing so attendees can see how to weatherproof their mosaics to complete
at home. This class includes a lunch and refreshments. About your tutor N
icola Upton Nicola Upton (aka Mrs Mosaic) has a degree in 3D Design from t
he University of Wolverhampton including a period at The University of Ill
inois at Urbana-Champaign. Following a teaching qualification at Southend
Adult Community College\, Nicola spent a number of years with the art depa
rtment reaching into the community. At the same time she was involved with
a mosaic group who collaborated on diverse local community projects aimed
to encourage and inspire disadvantaged\, hard to reach or minority stakeh
olders. This included working on the famous Moon Corner mosaic in Leigh (t
he next corner from The Grand)\, with the Storehouse Project and Mind the
mental health charity. Her work has been exhibited widely including at the
Beecroft Gallery\, Two Tree Gallery\, the Rayleigh Art Trail and numerous
local venues.
